Button and Dial Setup

Deep Menu

The OM System cameras have a reputation for having a deep menu system. Which Is why I have dedicated large sections of the course for initial setup of the camera and making the most out of the AF system.

Special Features

The special features on the OM System are incredibly powerful and most other camera systems still haven't caught up. Learn how I make the most out of Pro Capture including setup, quick custom mode access and photo examples.

Throughout this course, I’ll show you my top tips on all things OM System Settings.

Arranged around 6 technical modules, each lecture focuses on a specific topic so that you can navigate and consume the content in a way that makes sense for you, and you can dive in and get the exact tips you’re looking for.

Updates to the course

First filmed for the E-M1X I have since updated the course for the newest cameras, including the OM-1 Mark II. The updates are a mixture of PDFs and new videos.

Initial Set Up

I’ll take you through the initial set up, including customising your first menu, creating quick workflows and other useful tips to help optimise your set up.

Buttons

In the Button module, I’ll show you my camera button and dial layout, including how I set up my exposure dials for quick on the go shooting in the field. I’ll also cover custom modes for the OM-1, EM1X and EM1ii.

Focus

The Focus module is a deep dive looking at auto focus settings, back button focus, custom focus points, manual focus, peaking and more.

Special Features

This module looks at my favourite features that are specific to the OM system, including Pro Capture which enables you to go back in time and never miss another shot. I want you to get the most of these pioneering features and really enjoy using the OM system to the best of your (and its) abilities. I’ll also cover focus stacking, high res mode, live ND shooting, and more.

Video Settings

I use my OM System for video and vlogging a lot, and in this module I’ll give you a sneak peek of my custom video settings for the EM1X and EM1ii, as well as taking you through the Super Control Panel (SCP) for video and time lapse settings.

Settings In The Field

This module looks at using the OM system in the field. Using my real world examples, I’ll show you how my customised settings work in the field. Wildlife photography, and particularly birds in flight, can present some tricky focusing situations, so I’ll show you how I’ve optimised my settings to always be ready.

Bonus Content

I’ve added a bonus module with a lecture and additional resources that I think will help you get even more from your OM System.

"Awesome course, the way Espen presents is outstanding and easy to follow."

Meet Espen Helland

OM System Ambassador with a background in Wildlife Biology and Conservation

Hei hei! I’m Espen Helland, a Norwegian wildlife photographer based in Perthshire, Scotland. I’ve missed my share of shots in nature I can’t get back. When I switched to Olympus (OM System) in 2020, I decided to learn my gear inside and out.

Since then, I’ve led workshops, sold over 500 courses, and have posted YouTube videos since 2018 to help people connect with nature and leave the stress of camera settings behind.

"Can fully recommend the OM System for Wildlife Photography Course full of interesting points and settings, as I also have the OM-1 i shall be looking forward to that course as well."

Geoffrey

“This is a fantastic course! I've been shooting Olympus for years, but there were so many features that I didn't fully understand and wasn't taking advantage of. The course is very well organized, easy to follow, and broken down into small lessons that allow you to take it at your own pace. Highly recommend!”

Sarah S.

“What I really like with this course, is that it focuses on the user and how to make the best out of the camera systems. And it is made in a way that is very easy to understand and to follow. He always gives you the reason behind his different settings and choices. In that way it makes it a lot easier to understand and to decide if I want to use it or not.

I will highly recommend the course not only to those who are new to the Olympus system, but also to photographers, who like me, are not professional. But looking to broaden our photographic horizon.”

Arnth Lien

“I’m so grateful that you created a course on how to use the Olympus for Wildlife Photography. At first I was so overwhelmed, but your course is so well laid out and i keep referring to it for each stage. At present I am into Pro Capture. Thanks again, great job Espen. Cheers from Australia”
